Mumamoo in Shenzhen – A Rainy Bar Takeover at Plus Trunk Coffee

A field note from our recent bar takeover in Shazui Village, Futian District, where heavy rain did not stop friends from gathering around coffee.

On a rainy day in Shenzhen, MUMAMOO took over the bar at Plus Trunk Coffee.

The event took place in Shazui Village, Futian District, a corner of the city where the rain made everything move a little slower. The sidewalks were wet, the umbrellas were out, and the weather gave everyone more than enough reason to stay home.

But many friends still came.

Some traveled from far across the city. Some arrived almost as soon as the cafe opened. Before the bar had fully settled into the day, there were already people at the counter, asking about the coffees, looking through the menu, and waiting for the first cups to be brewed.

For this takeover, we wanted to share more than coffee.

We brought a small selection of MUMAMOO coffees to the bar and walked through the stories behind them: where they came from, why they were chosen, what kind of flavor we were looking for, and what kind of place or memory each cup carried.

Coffee is never only a flavor note to us. It is a route, a city, a season, a person, a table, a first sip, a second thought.

At Plus Trunk, we had the chance to slow those stories down and tell them face to face.

Behind the bar, the rhythm was simple and focused: preparing the cups, pouring water, watching the coffee open up, and serving each drink while the room moved around us.

Throughout the day, the bar became a place for small conversations.

People asked about origins, processing, brewing, roasting, and why one coffee could feel bright while another felt round and comforting. Some friends came because they already knew MUMAMOO. Some came simply because they were curious. Some just wanted a good cup on a rainy afternoon.

There were quiet moments too: someone holding a warm cup before the first sip, someone leaning in to listen, someone smiling from behind the counter, someone staying a little longer than planned.

All of that felt right.

That is what a bar takeover can be: not a performance, not a sales table, but a temporary meeting point where coffee gives everyone something to talk about.
